One of the finest orchestrators of all time, Rimsky-Korsakov’s work Scheherazade is well loved by orchestras and audiences alike and is a staple of the concert repertoire. This arrangement is inspired by the stunning melody of the Young Prince and Young Princess. There are beautiful soloistic elements, harmonies evoking the ‘Arabian Nights’ of which the suite is based on, and a flowing 6/8 meter that indicates the theme of the sea. One of Kensington Brass’ most performed works, this work is an audience favourite and one of my favourite arrangements in the quintet collection!
