Salut d’Amour (Love’s Greeting) is a beautiful love song written in 1888 for violin and piano. It was given as an engagement present for his partner Caroline Alice Roberts. The first ever public performance of the work was the full orchestra version, and it has been reworked many times for different instrumentations since. This version for trumpet and piano has been idiomatically reworked into Bb major. It’s a perfect short concert item of a well known song, with long sustained phrases, romantic rubato and chromatic harmonies for the duo to really enjoy.
